[BONUS] Easter: How to Plan When You Can’t Return to What You Know (w/ Aimee Cottle & Jamie Shafer)

This was originally a Facebook Live we hosted with our friends in ministry, Aimee Cottle and Jamie Shafer, from Fishhook. If you’d prefer to watch the conversation, you can click here!

No doubt, as the world around us has quickly changed, one of the pressing issues for church leaders is how we’re going to shift our strategy for Easter. So today we’re sharing a conversation with our friends over at Fishhook to talk through that. Where do we start? Should we do an online service this year? How should we plan?

Easter is the intersection of faith, hope, and love. Our communities need all these things right now. And it’s exactly what you have to give. But, your audiences need to connect with it in a way that is inviting, approachable, and accessible – literally.

You have the most important story in the world to tell. How will you tell it in a way that can be experienced? Understood? How will people hear it? See it? Share it? Hold it – even in time of social distancing?

Here are some key takeaways from today’s conversation:

  1. Don’t jump straight to the tools. Start with strategy. Start with a basic question: What are we trying to accomplish this Easter? And who is this service for? Let the answers to those questions determine your methods instead of your methods determining your direction.
  2. Excellence is doing the best with what you have. And excellence during this season is different than “high quality.” During this time, it’s easy to set unrealistic and unnecessary expectations for ourselves. This self-imposed pressure isn’t helpful for real ministry.
  3. This is the time to partner with other churches in your area. This is a time for churches to come together and utilize each church’s strength and work to bring something amazing to our communities.
