Leadership Alone Isn’t Enough (w/ Dan Reiland) – Episode 141

Leadership Alone Isn’t Enough (w/ Dan Reiland) – Episode 141

We’re excited to welcome Dan Reiland back to the 95 Podcast! If you don’t remember, Dan is the executive pastor at 12Stone Church just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. He’s worked for decades in ministry and has honed his craft in teaching others how to lead effectively. Recently, he spent some time with us discussing how to create a thriving church, a conversation filled with practical tips and wisdom for pastors.

Dan just released his new devotional book, Leadership Alone Isn’t Enough, and we’re so excited to talk to him about it. The book incorporates 40 short devotions designed to refresh and deepen the connection between you and God. Each devotion is only about three pages long and has a reflection question at the end—a perfect design for pastors and leaders who need encouragement. Tune in to see what Dan has to say!

Key Takeaways

1) Your walk with God determines where and how your leadership rises and falls. In the introductory sentence of his book, Dan says, “…only Jesus brings real power and the life-changing authority that makes it possible for any church to reach its potential.” While it’s tempting to rely on our own abilities when leading, it’s only God who can create the ultimate impact.

2) We can’t force the Holy Spirit to show up or rush God into what we want Him to do. God cannot be rushed. He will move through the Holy Spirit and do the work that He sees fit on his timeline and not ours.

3) Slowing down and spending time with God is key. We all know this, but it bears repeating that spending unhurried time with the Lord is one of the most important things we can do. Greater joy for the long haul comes with slowing down and giving things space to breathe.

4) Don’t feel guilty about your passion and your calling, but don’t make it more stressful and complicated than it needs to be. Remember that God has given you your calling for a purpose! Don’t let discouragement get to you—what’s in front of you is still good. Stay focused on what God has for you.
